EeePC 900 Specs Released: Buy The Linux Version
Alright kids, we've got the specs for the best computer coming out this quarter, the EeePC 900. And here they are:
| CPU | 900 MHz Intel Celeron Processor |
| RAM | 1 GB DDR II |
| Monitor | 8.9 Inch LCD 1024x600 Resolution |
| Storage | 20 GB Solid State Disk |
| Wireless | 802.11b/g WiFi |
| Webcam | 1.3 MegaPixel |
| Battery | 4 Cell - 2.8 Hours |
If you're not salivating yet let me tell you this: just 500 bones gets this puppy out the door.
I hope you can upgrade the battery.
You sure can. There's also a 6 cell battery that will buy you 3.5 hours.
Aren't we getting into regular laptop territory at this size?
Of course a subcompact at this price is incredible given what regular computer manufacturers charge. However, instead the price difference shows what kinds of margins they have been making on those subcompacts. I've seen the guts of even the bulkiest notebooks and it's mostly air and plastic. With a little effort, it's easy to see how they can make them slimmer. As evidence of my point look at the EEEpc.
Overall, EEEpc, great price point and size that should drive prices further down across the compact line.
Lory_plus: This is actually almost exactly the same size as the original eepc, the 700. You're right about everything else, though.
whoo!
Considering it's diskless the 2.5 hour battery life stinks. You need at least 5 hours 8 - 12 hours would be even better.
Compared to solid-state disks, hard drives don't use that much more power especially if they are spun down appropriately. I once looked up some of the numbers and it didn't amount to much.
The backlight is a much bigger power drain.
look around - you can carry a second battery for less than 60 bucks.
A friend of mine has a current model EeePC and he regularly gets greater than three hours battery time.
